THE FUTURE IS NOW

Small steps do make the difference

1987

SVILIPPO SOSTENIBILE

In 1987, the UN Brundtland Commission defined sustainable development as “meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.” (Report of the World Commission on Environment and Development.)

In Italpack we believe that we have developed quality innovations, that could replace existing plastic packaging. They are not yet perfect solutions, we still use PE coated cardboard to offer food safety but we reduce the quantity to the minimum. We use cardboard, a renewable and recyclable raw material for the majority of our package. From an economic stand point, we see a real business opportunity in exploiting our knowhow and experience in that area.

To claim that we are contributing to sustainability without asking ourselves if our behaviour is aligned to ecological principles would be just pretending. That’s why we have outlined sustainability goals for the company and reviewed our behavior.

Because we are a family owned company we believe that “small steps do make the difference” and this is the way to go for us. We therefore started from our existing situation, with our history, existing plant, people and … sometimes bad habits and we decided to improve.

We have replaced the traditional light bulbs in our factory with LED bulbs. The electricity saving represents 674.142 Kwh  and a reduction of our CO2 footprint by 337.070,83 kg or a more compelling unit: 33.707 trees ! (situation on July 10.2020 – Beghelli)

Replacement of plastic bottles

All plastic bottles available for the employees have been replaced in June with 4 water fountains and 100 reusable bottles for each Italpack cartons employee. With this simple step, we reduced our yearly consumption of plastic bottles by over 50’000 units, which represents if you laid them down nose to tail, over 13.5 Kilometers of plastic…

As of May, concrete actions involving our employees will be organized and we will update this page regularly to track our progress.
