In January 1997, the EU adopted the Directive (97/129/CE) an identification system for packaging material based on numbering and abbreviations.
Our product portfolio, Gable top, EvoCup, VPack or Eco Carton uses the same materials: Predominant material is PAPER, combined with other materials to offer adequate protection to the food product. This combination translates into the letters C / PAP. The “C” identifies that we have a composite material, “PAP” highlights paper as the predominant material. The thin layer of plastic is sometimes combined with aluminum if a barrier to light is needed. It is identified by 81 for a plastic coating and 84 for a plastic/aluminum coating.
The EU Directive needs to be transferred into the Member state’s legislation for implementation. In Italy, the legal decree Dlgs 116/2020, published on September 11th, 2020, addresses this issue.
